Dr. Melissa Buzinhani, BSc, PhD
Executive Vice President, Managing Director
Dr. Melissa Buzinhani completed a BSc in Veterinary from Londrina State University (Brazil) and achieved an MSc and a PhD in Microbiology from one of the most prestigious educational and research institutions in Latin America, the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo. In 2009, she finished her postdoctoral training in the Department of Microbiology where she also worked as co-director of a PhD student and as a professor assistant.
As a researcher, Dr. Buzinhani received the financial support of a renowned public foundation, São Paulo Research Foundation – FAPESP, for all of her research projects. Her other accomplishments include being published in many scientific articles of reputable magazines and congress. Dr. Buzinhani has also strengthened her scientific knowledge and leadership capabilities through various scientific projects.
In 2012, Dr. Buzinhani joined FoodChekTM Laboratories Inc. and worked in the Salmonella project team for the development of a faster and easier detection of Salmonella spp. in food. She assumed the role of Senior Laboratory Manager in 2014 and is responsible for managing solid research and leading a structured quality control team with a philosophy of scientific rigor that supports the FoodChek™ mission. On November 24, 2017, Dr. Buzinhani was promoted to Vice President, Laboratory Operations.
On October 31, 2019, Dr. Buzinhani was promoted to Executive Vice President, Managing Director.
Dr. Sergiy Olishevskyy, BSc, PhD
Vice President, Research and Development
Dr. Sergiy Olishevskyy completed with distinction a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Microbiology and Immunology from Kyiv National University, the largest and most renowned university in Ukraine. He continued his post-graduate studies at the Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of National Academy of Science of Ukraine, where he gained a PhD degree in 2007.
Dr. Olishevskyy has been engaged in many scientific projects focusing on research and development in the areas of immunology and microbiology. His strong, multidisciplinary scientific expertise and leadership allows him to design, develop and manage successful research and development projects with his laboratory team. He is the author of more than 20 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and co-author of six patents and three book chapters.
In 2012, Dr. Olishevskyy joined FoodChek™ Laboratories Inc. as Senior Scientific Project Manager where he continued his postdoctoral studies, which were supported by the Industrial R&D Fellowships Program from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. He is currently the group leader of a research and development project aimed at the development of modern approaches for Listeria detection in the food industry. Among Dr. Olishevskyy’s latest professional achievements are successfully completing the validation studies for Actero™ Listeria Enrichment Media and FoodChek™ Listeria spp. Assay, which have recently been awarded AOAC Research Institute Performance Tested MethodSM (PTM) status.
On November 24, 2017, Dr. Olishevskyy was promoted to Vice President, Research and Development.
Renaud Tremblay, MSc
Vice President, Quality Control and Regulatory Affairs
Renaud Tremblay holds a BSc in Biotechnology, receiving two Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Awards, and an MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University De Sherbrooke. He also acquired thorough training and expertise in quality control management systems in addition to an extensive understanding of food related legislation.
Mr. Tremblay started at FoodChek™ Laboratories Inc. in 2010 as head of the Salmonella project. He was also involved in the development of new methods for a faster and easier detection of Salmonella spp. in food. He successfully led the validation of the assay FoodChek™ Salmonella spp. and the enrichment media for Salmonella spp. and STEC, and Actero™ Salmonella/STEC. Mr. Tremblay was later promoted to Senior Research Associate, Regulatory Affairs.
Mr. Tremblay’s other responsibilities include quality control with a focus on the company becoming a leader in regulatory affairs. He has successfully prepared, coordinated and filed regulatory approvals for Health Canada and AOAC International, as well as method certifications for FoodChek’s™ rapid detection tests. Mr. Tremblay currently supervises the implementation of the quality management system and quality control at FoodChek™, ensuring a high quality of developed products for the company’s customers.
On November 24, 2017, Mr. Tremblay was promoted to Vice President, Quality Control and Regulatory Affairs.
