AOAC Approves FoodChekTM-E. coli O157 TEST for Beef Carcass Sponge Samples
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 28, 2010) - FoodChek Systems Inc. ("FoodChek"/"the Company") is pleased to announce that the AOAC Research Institute/Gaithersburg, Maryland, a globally-recognized approval body for Food Safety diagnostic tests, has approved the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test for use with Beef Carcass Sponge samples. This additional AOAC-approval, is consistent with USDA-prescribed testing procedures of beef carcasses, and complements FoodChek's other AOAC approvals including 25g, 65g, 325g and 375g Raw Ground Beef ("RGB") samples and N-60 Beef Trim samples. FoodChek™-E. coli O157 is now AOAC-approved and USDA-accepted for all current U.S. beef industry beef sample test applications.
The AOAC Beef Carcass Sponge approval further supports the Company's unique and proprietary MICT magnetic nanotechnology platform. The USDA's approval of the MICT platform enables FoodChek to offer U.S. beef processors the superior speed (results in 7 to 8 hours, including enrichment time), accuracy (≥ 98% sensitivity and specificity) and ease-of-use of the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test with the full support of USDA inspectors. FoodChek™-E. coli O157 provides beef processors with the fastest Food Safety diagnostic test to safely release finished product into distribution, reduce product holding costs and recover lost product value.
William J. Hogan, President & CEO, stated "The AOAC Beef Carcass Sponge approval together with the previous AOAC approvals for 375g RGB and N-60 Beef Trim, now gives FoodChek™-E. coli O157 the ability to deliver E. coli O157 test results on site and in a single production shift to all beef processors, from large slaughterhouses to downstream raw ground beef grinders. From a risk-management perspective, these AOAC test approvals clearly demonstrate that FoodChek™-E. coli O157 is fast, accurate and the easiest diagnostic tool to monitor the effectiveness of processor's microbial interventions and process controls."
Dr. Gabriela Martinez, FoodChek's Director of Science stated "With these AOAC approvals, FoodChek™-E. coli O157 has now been proven to have superior sensitivity in RGB and Beef Trim samples (1cfu/375g) and in Beef Carcass Sponge samples (<0.05 cfu/100 cm2). This contributes to protecting both the beef processors' brand and public health. Additionally, this powerful screening tool detects all pathogenic serotypes of E. coli O157, including H7 and non motiles (NM), as well as other serotypes of E. coli O157, which are a growing public health concern."

FoodChek™-E. coli O157 Test Receives USDA / FSIS Comparable Test Approval
July 16, 2010
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 16, 2010) - FoodChek Systems Inc. ("FoodChek" / the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Microbiology Division of the United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA") and its Food Safety Inspection Service ("FSIS") has confirmed that the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test complies with the USDA / FSIS's test method requirements for use by U.S. beef processors as a screening method to detect the presence of E. coli O157 in raw ground beef and beef trim.
The USDA / FSIS assessment of the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test for 375 gram ground beef and 375 gram beef trim excision sample ("N-60") states: "If used under the AOAC-RI (#060902) validated conditions, the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test would provide results that are comparable to FSIS test results. Questions related to the use of the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test in regulated establishments should be addressed to the AskFSIS sampling queue."
Mr. William J. Hogan, President & CEO, stated: "By becoming recognized as a comparable test to other sanctioned FSIS tests, FoodChek™-E. coli O157 has now fulfilled the final requirement of beef processors prior to using our revolutionary test. The door is now wide open for all processors, whether they be big or small, to take advantage of FoodChek™-E. coli O157's ability to deliver on site and during the same production shift, an accurate, easy to use and cost effective test for E. coli O157."
Mr. A. Crispin Philpott, FoodChek's Vice-President, Product Management stated: "This USDA / FSIS authorization enables FoodChek to offer regulated establishments within the U.S. beef industry the superior speed, accuracy and ease-of-use of the FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test with the full support of the FSIS's inspectors and auditors."
About USDA / FSIS
The USDA and its FSIS department provide clear guidelines to processors on implementing effective food safety programs, including process control (e.g. HACCP programs), verification test methods (e.g. MLG 5A.7 – Lateral Flow Devices for Screening E. coli O157) and setting stringent microbial standards for the food industry. Inspectors from the USDA adhere rigorously to these regulatory guidelines to ensure food safety and public health.

AOAC Awards Approval to FoodChek™-E. coli O157 for N-60 Beef Trim Sample
July 06, 2010
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 6, 2010) - FoodChek Systems Inc. ("FoodChek" / "the Company") is pleased to announce that the AOAC Research Institute, the approval body for all U.S. food safety tests, has awarded another approved beef sample modification to the Company's existing AOAC approved FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test. This extended AOAC approval for the N-60 Beef Trim sample is a USDA prescribed procedure for beef trim testing and compliments FoodChek's other AOAC milestone approvals including 25g, 65g, 325g and the industry-standard sample size of 375g for detecting E. coli O157 in raw ground beef.
The AOAC N-60 Beef Trim approval for FoodChek™-E. coli O157 further supports the Company's proprietary MICT magnetic technology platform as being a robust analytical method. FoodChek's suite of approved food safety tests provides meat processors with the ability to monitor and verify the effectiveness of their microbial interventions in less than 8 hours, including the enrichment time. As such, FoodChek™-E. coli O157 will provide processors with the fastest verification tool to divert trim that has tested positive for E. coli O157 from being used in the production of raw ground beef.
William J. Hogan, President & CEO, stated "AOAC approval of our FoodChek™-E. coli O157 test for N-60 Beef Trim is the validation that our target customers have been asking for. FoodChek's state of the art tests, that incorporate nanotechnology, are not only fast, accurate and simple, but also cost-effective for detecting E. coli O157 in raw ground beef and now in beef trim. This news is being well received by processors as trim testing is by far the largest tested sample matrix for beef production. From a risk management perspective, being able to confirm within the same production shift that products are safe to release will have an enormous impact on lowering costs and improving plant productivity for processors around the world."
